Attaching URLs to tasks in Quick To-Do Pro

While attaching files is pretty obvious for most of the users, some of you guys had problems with attaching URLs to tasks.

No, it’s not impossible. There are two ways of doing it.

1) Simply type the URL in the Attachment filed while editing a task:

attachment.png
clicking Open attachment button will open that URL in your default browser.
2) Just drag a link from your browser on your desktop or, better, to a specially created folder (say, C:\Quick To-Do links first. This will create a *.url file on your disk:

attachUrl.png
Now you can attach this file and opening it will open the web site it points to:

Attached Url

Upgrading your Quick To-Do Pro

Every now and then we get emails from our loyal customers about our upgrade policy and upgrade procedure. So I decided to write a post that explains pretty much all the aspects of the upgrade procedure.

Our licensing policy
In a nutshell it’s

Minor upgrades are free, major upgrades are not free.

Minor upgrade is an upgrade from, say, version 4.1.4 to 4.3.1 or to 4.9, within the same major version 4.

Major upgrade is an upgrade from, say, 4.3.1 to 5.0 or 6.1. Major upgrades are not free, however, you don’t have to pay the full price ever. We offer an upgrade price, which is $19.95 at the moment.

Keeping your valuable data during upgrades
When Quick To-Do Pro tries to open data created with an old version of the program, it will make a backup copy of the data and automatically upgrade the data to the latest format. So the upgrade process is really simple – you just install your new version over the old one and voila!

However, if you need that extra level of protection, always use menu File >> Backup data prior to the upgrade.

Moving data between computers
First of all, backup your data on your old computer by using menu File >> Backup data. I’d suggest to copy the backup to a flash drive, a network drive or burn it on a CD.
Then install Quick To-Do Pro on your new computer and restore previously backed up data using menu File >> Restore data.

Sub-tasks in Quick To-Do Pro

Currently, Quick To-Do Pro doesn’t provide users with an ability to create sub-tasks. This functionality is planned for upcoming version 5.0, however, users of version 4.0 can manage their tasks efficiently as well.
There are several ways to attack the problem.

1) If you have only several major tasks and every other task is related to some sort of a big task, just create a project for each of the major task (menu Project >> Manage projects…).
Once the project is created, assign all relevant tasks to that project.
The biggest limitation of this solution is inability to create that structure one more level down because Quick To-Do Pro doesn’t allow creation of sub-projects.

2) Name your tasks accordingly.
Imagine you have a task of organising your holiday in France with few related tasks.
You assign that task to Personal project, which contains lots of other tasks. So you can not use solution 1).
You create a task “(France) Organise holiday”, where (France) is just a code to group tasks together. It could be a number, a unique key or anything you like.
Then you create several sub-tasks:

(France)1. Buy Lonely Planet Guide to France.
(France)2. Book flight
(France)3. Book a hotel
etc.

Now all of the tasks belong to the same major task “(France) Organise holiday”. All you have to do is to sort your task list by task name in order to see them side by side. Alternatively you can use menu View >> Find… in order to locate all tasks related to (acheter viagra France).
